Fish dying in Lea

Lea Pollution

River Lea Pollution
Dear All,

I received helpful suggestions from Martin Slavin (Games Monitor) and from Nick Atkins (independent fish/river expert) that I forwarded to Maude Christophe. She seems happy to have received it.

If anyone would still like to contact her, I'm sure to would be appreciated. Thanks to those who have responded to me.

For your information, there is a film entitled 'Losing the Marshes' by Kym Oeser that is due to be released on 27th July. It has been five years in the making and details are online at http://losingthemarshes.com

Nick Atkins mentioned that there was a fish kill by Springfield Marina yesterday, resulting from the hot weather and possibly raw sewage discharges into the Lea via Mosel Brooks after the storm on Monday night. The Environment Agency were pumping hydrogen peroxide into the river to re-oxygenate the water. If you see any evidence of fish kills, please phone the EA hotline: 0800 80 70 60. A grid reference of the location is very helpful.

Best wishes,
Mike
