Holland Village

One of the down sides of living in Singapore is landlords are all powerful and tenants weak. Our daughter, who has to rent, (most apartments start over £1m to buy!) was forced to move last year as rent was put up by 25%. Luckily she found an older but larger apartment for less rent. At the time she hadn't noticed it was on the 5th floor. Now she is 6months pregnant she is struggling. She signed for 2 years but the landlord will not let her out of the deal although the International School she works for has under written the contract.

She has now signed for a 3 bedroom terrace in the Chip Bee Gardens area used by the British to house their officers about 50 years ago. The house is ideal and is on a large estate with similar listed properties which are being restored by the Government. It is close to the shops of Holland Village which was originally settled by the Dutch but has become a bit of a bohemian area!
