NB gave an update on progress to open a wheelchair accessible link between Walthamstow Queen’s Road and Walthamstow Central station. He said that Opening of the station link was now scheduled for April 2014.

The wheelchair accessible ramp at Walthamstow Queens Road had been completed in June 2013 but the opening of the station entrance was awaiting the completion of the path at the Walthamstow Central end of the link where a footway through the car park was due for completion at the end of March 2014. CCTV cameras were being installed in the Edison Close estate between the two stations to tackle the issue of anti-social behaviour from gangs in the area. Installation of the cameras would be complete by early 2014.

At the Exeter Road entrance to Walthamstow Queen’s Road Oyster Readers had been installed. But for revenue protection reasons, London Overground had asked that a ticket vending machine was installed as well.  This required planning permission along with the construction of a protective row of bollards and enhanced lighting arrangements.

Cllr Moss asked whether London Overground routinely ordered new Oyster readers for new stations or whether there was any recycling of old Oyster readers.

RG asked whether London Overground (and London Underground) could display more London Connections maps. He understood that there were issues to do with branding about displaying the maps, but they were very useful in showing how TfL and London Overground services interchanged with services run by other operators. TfL’s concerns over branding should not triumph over the great value of these maps to the travelling public. It was suggested that the matter might usefully be raised with London Travelwatch. SR also agreed to take up the matter again with TfL.
