News from The Mill: E17 Art Trail, Summer Bee-zaar and more

We had a great start to the E17 Art Trail here at The Mill. On Thursday 31st May, around Walthamstow there were many opening parties for trailers to attend and artists to take part. The ‘At Home At The Mill’ one person/one piece exhibition, showcases the work of local artists as part of this year’s Trail. A true artistic nature shines through, as many different styles and expressions are created with the use of mixed media. The abstract to the mysterious and the beautiful can be discovered. On until July 5th. Also at the Mill is the ‘Time To Fly’ children’s exhibition, who celebrated their opening alongside the main show - delving into the magic of a child’s imagination, all pieces inspired by flight. A combination of planes and poetry from local 4 - 11 year olds. An exhibition of fun, colour and delight. A project in conjunction with Waltham Forest Arts In Education Network and Inky Cuttlefish Studios.

The Mill is also proud to be Art Trail Central! Every weekend during the E17 Art Trail the doors will be open during our normal hours (Sat 10-6, Sun 11-2) to a welcome from Art Trail volunteers who can help you plan your day, with a large board outside to find flyers and information about trail events. The first weekend featured a very special event with Jason Hawkridge, who has his studio above The Mill. He set up in the front windows and attempted to speed sketch adults and children (five minute sketches) and raised £50 for The Mill, while producing beautiful sketches for people to take away.

The Mill Summer Bee-zaar. A celebration of the season and a thank you to the bees! Games, stalls, refreshments, music and loads of information and advice about bees. Come to The Mill on Saturday 5th July, featuring stalls such as White Elephant, Plants, Knits, and more… Refreshments from The Mill Bakers, face painting and games, Jazz from The Mood Swingers, and loads of information and advice about bees with a talk by bee expert Catherine McLoughlin of Organiclea. The fun starts at 2pm and goes on until 5pm.
