London National Park update

Forwarded..
Greater London National Park campaign update, Jan 2015http://www.greaterlondonnationalpark.org.uk/
We have some good news!

Dear LFGN / Friends Groups

I hope that you have had a restful and enjoyable break over Christmas and the new year.

There are now nearly 90 organisations that are Friends of the Greater London National Park initiative. Thank you for representing yours and your continued support.

2015 is a big and important year for our campaign to make London a National Park. I do hope that you are able to play an active part in helping us to make it happen.

First of all some good news. At the end of last year I met with the Mayor's Environment Team. They have agreed to invest some officer time in helping us to develop a proposal for the national park. They have specifically asked us to feed into the Mayor's Green Infrastructure Task Force which is publishing a report in November 2015. We now have support from politicians in all the major parties, but the next challenge will be to recruit each of the 2016 mayoral candidates.

I believe we can make London a National Park and the next 17 months are crucial. Here are a few ways you can help:

Reimagine London: Exhibit at our Southbank event for as little as £10Join us for this big event. We have superb speakers and all the ingredients to seed a National Park City.

You can book discounted tickets for the event here.

Please do share this event with your networks. I can create a new discount code for you if that will help.

The proposalOver the next six months we will be developing a full proposal. The rough timeline looks like this:
  • January: Shaping the National Park City model
  • February: Testing the model
  • March: Consultation (not publicly promoted)
  • April: Draft 1 published
  • May: Consultation (publicly promoted)
  • June: Final draft published
The CampaignOver the next 17 months we will be doing lots of fun and interesting things to help the campaign move forward. Please consider holding a meeting to discuss how your organisation can help to progress the campaign.

Our next campaign meeting is from 7pm on January 28th at the pub in Kings Cross Station. Please do join us for a pint if you can.

Easy things you can do todayTo finish, here are some simple things that you can do to help the campaign today.
  1. Share the petition on Twitter, Facebook or in another way
  2. Consider how your organisation can help to move the campaign forward in 2015.
That's it for now. Please do email me with any thoughts, ideas, comments or suggestions.

Very many thanks,

Daniel
