Why has Waltham Forest only managed to get 3 of its parks up to the Green Flag Award standard compared to Haringey's 16?

Kranji War Memorial
It is not till you visit the Far East do you realise the Second World War was even more fierce and horrendous than that in Europe. Singapore was taken over by the Japanese by working their way down through the jungles of Malay. When you see the jungle and experience the heat and wet you realise what an amazing achievement it was. The Americans played a huge part in the war while the British were trying to protect their territories in the Far East at the same time as fighting Hitler in Europe. The consequence of course was huge numbers of deaths which are marked in vast cemeteries.
Here in Singapore Kranji is but just one example of the soldiers that met their death thousands of miles away from home.

Dear All,I received helpful suggestions from Martin Slavin (Games Monitor) and from Nick Atkins (independent fish/river expert) that I forwarded to Maude Christophe. She seems happy to have received it.If anyone would still like to contact her, I'm sure to would be appreciated. Thanks to those who have responded to me.For your information, there is a film entitled 'Losing the Marshes' by Kym Oeser that is due to be released on 27th July. It has been five years in the making and details are online at http://losingthemarshes.comNick Atkins mentioned that there was a fish kill by Springfield Marina yesterday, resulting from the hot weather and possibly raw sewage discharges into the Lea via Mosel Brooks after the storm on Monday night. The Environment Agency were pumping hydrogen peroxide into the river to re-oxygenate the water. If you see any evidence of fish kills, please phone the EA hotline: 0800 80 70 60. A grid reference of the location is very helpful.Best wishes,Mike
Still no footpath between Queens Rd and Central
Dear Neil,At the last WFTLCG meeting, LOROL stated that the continuing delay in installing Oyster validators at the Edison Close station entrance was due to their awaiting permission from the Council. As you were not present, it was not possible to check this. LOROL also said that they also wished to install a Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) but that too would need Council permissionAlso, it appears that the Edison Close - Walthamstow Central footpath will not be ready by the end of next month, do you have another revised completion date from the developers?Kind regards,GlennGlenn WallisSecretaryBarking - Gospel Oak Rail User Group

Bollywood Veggies
Located in the north of Singapore is a fascinating attempt to prove food can be grown on the island and it should try to be more sustainable. How successful it is in changing minds is debateable, but as a place to visit it makes a good day out!!
The Botanical Gardens of Singapore
A wonderful place to while away a few hours in the heart of Singapore. It was one of the first places to develop orchids and now has large laboratories devoted to growing orchids.
