Congratulations to the William Morris Gallery

Particular congratulations have to go to Lorna Lee, Head of Museums and Galleries for persistently fighting her corner to protect the William Morris Gallery. From the dark days when it was nearly closed to today's announcement that it has won the Museum of the Year Award by the Art Fund with a £100k prize. It was nearly closed due to lack of vision and funding, then the council found £30k a year for 3 years to keep it open while the Heritage Lottery Fund considered whether to support it. The prize is not just the money but the fact that over 100,000 visitors have visited since last summer when it reopened - a really big thank you is due to Lorna Lee for guiding the project so successfully.
