Success again for the Village

Success for Walthamstow Village!

We've had a very exciting day and have done it again! At the London in Bloom finals at Pembroke Lodge in Richmond today Helen Lerner, Teresa Deacon and Caroline Barton learnt that we've maintained our high standard and collected another GOLD award for Walthamstow Village and, for the 6th time, Best London Village! (Kyle Bourne Village got Silver, Twickenham Village, Hale Village and Barnes Village all got Silver-Gilts).

As a complete surprise, we were awarded London in Bloom's 2015 Greener Streets Award, beating all the boroughs and other entrants for "greening the grey" streets of London! You'll be able to see the awards, the marking sheets and read the judges' comments at the WVRA AGM on Monday 19 October at 8pm at the Asian Centre (see below) when we'll be giving out the certificates to all those that entered our local garden challenges.

Really well done and thank you to each and every one you; together we are a winning team!

Next Gardening Day - Saturday 3 October

No slacking now, or resting on our laurels! Our next Gardening Day will be, as usual on the first Saturday of the month, 3rd October when we'll be re-planting the Village Square! All the plants removed in spring have been grown-on, re-potted and carefully tended and now need to go back into the borders.

Please meet at 10.30 at the Village Square (on the corner of Eden and Orford Roads)with kneelers, trowels and garden forks. It's going to be a big job so do come along to help - no special skills are needed and refreshments will be provided.

By the way, your Bloom Team is going to try and get the MH designers/Riney's to put a circular planting bed around the big false acacia tree, as we don't like the way the compacted gravel goes up to the trunk. Other "snagging" issues will be dealt with in the coming months.

Notice of WVRA Annual General Meeting

The Walthamstow Village Residents’ Association Annual General Meeting will be held at the Asian Centre, 18A Orford Road, E17 9LN on Monday 19th October 2015, starting at 8pm.

The agenda will comprise:
1. Reports on activities during 2014-15
2. Adoption of draft accounts for 2014-15
3. Election of officers for 2015-16
4. Plan of activities for 2015-16
5. Presentation of Walthamstow Village in Bloom certificates of participation
6. Celebration of a year of successes

Refreshments will be served. The residents’ association welcomes new people and fresh ideas, and will be pleased to have discussions on anything you wish to contribute either as an occasional volunteer or as a committee member.
