On the 8th August hundreds of people turned up in Hyde Park to watch the 2013 London Charity Softball Final. What should have been a celebration of an amazing summer of softball and 10 years of the charity softball league was tinged with the knowledge that this might be the last time we all came together on the Old Football Pitches. But even though our season is over we are determined to keep fighting against the charges which we believe are unfair.
Since the final we’ve been talking to some amazing lawyers from Leigh Day who have looked into our campaign to stop Hyde Park charging for sport. They believe the decision the Royal Parks has taken to charge ordinary users is unlawful. That's why last week they wrote to the Secretary of State, Maria Miller MP, threatening the Government with legal actionunless the fees are scrapped.
We’ll be sending you an email in the coming weeks with more information about what’s happening and how you can continue to support our campaign.
But with the kids about to go back to school, and MPs back from their summer break, we thought it would be the perfect time to have a little bit more playground activism.
That's why on 9th September we'll be playing the first ever Stuck in the Mud championships in Hyde Park with Comedian Mark Thomas. This year Mark is completing 100 Acts of Minor Dissent and got in touch to lend his support after hearing about our campaign and these ridiculous charges.
So we're inviting you to come down to the Old Football Pitches and take part. Teams of 6 will go head to head to fight for the title of 'Stuck in the Mud World Champion'.
Sign up to play and for more information.
Hope to see you there!
