Artist's Access to Winn's Gallery - please sign the petition

The arts community in Waltham Forest have very little community provision for art exhibitions and events, this is despite Waltham Forest having been promoted as a hub of creativity, and being the first ever London Borough of Culture. The one space, Winns Gallery in Lloyd Park, originally created from Lottery funding for this purpose, has been almost impossible to access for local artists in the last few years. Artists trying to hire the space have met with emails unanswered, reports about confusing information re pricing, and links not working.

If this situation continues it will further impede local artists from facilitating public engagement in the artistic life of the community. There are exciting arts projects going on in the borough that could be using the space and showing some of the best emerging, and well established artists from within - and also beyond the borough - which would contribute greatly to Waltham Forest’s reputation as a ’destination’. It is a huge missed opportunity for all.

Now is the time to act! If this situation continues, local artists fear that the space will be lost to them completely, due to confusing management which in turn could lead to an incorrect assumption by the local council that Winns Gallery is not in use and is therefore no longer needed by artists living in the borough.
