Waltham Forest Local History Network

Dear colleague

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 8th May at 7.30pm in the Community Room behind Vestry House Museum - with thanks to Anna Mason and her colleagues there for very kindly allowing us to use the Room.  Dr Mary Clare Martin will give a short presentation to start a discussion on 'Local History in a Diverse Community'.  We need to publicise this meeting imaginatively to get a diverse audience.  Please do what you can and share any ideas you have about this.

Two of Mary Clare's colleagues have written a book 'Bringing History Alive through Local People and Places' which can be purchased through Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bringing-History-through-People-Places/dp/0415535867
and will I believe be the inspiration for an event at the University on 15 May at 5pm.

George Mitchell School has been lent an exhibition related to slavery.  Entry to the school is strictly controlled but Martin Spafford may be able to get contacts access on Thursday 13th and Thursday 20th March 4.30pm to 5.45pm.  If you want to see the exhibition you have to arrange this with Martin well in advance.

Liss Chapman of Clio's Company has got local history into this year's E17 Art Trail, with activities at Orford House Social Club on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June.  Clio's Company is able to use the City church of All Hallows by the Tower as a resource for bringing history alive for primary schoolchildren http://www.ahbtt.org.uk/content/pages/documents/1392133010.pdf  If you would like to know more contact Lissa.
