Civic Trust Award goes to the .......... Aveling Centre


The Aveling Centre won a Commendation at the Civic Trust Awards ceremony last week. The event  was held at the Globe Theatre and we were hosted by Colin Burdon, Plinck Landscapes, who desinged the refurbishment of the park.

The award was collected by the Martin Eason, Chief Executive and Lorna Lee, Head Arts and Events.

2015 CIVIC TRUST AWARDS - WINNERS REVEALED
CELEBRATING OUTSTANDING ARCHITECTURE & BUILT ENVIRONMENT PROJECTS

The 56th Annual Civic Trust Awards Ceremony was held on Friday 6th March at The Swan, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, hosted by architect, writer and TV presenter George Clarke and Civic Trust Awards Managing Director Malcolm Hankey.

From 238 applications, 91 national and international projects were rewarded with a Civic Trust Award or Commendation, which included Pro-Tem Awards for temporary projects or installations and the new AABC Conservation category.

In addition, 8 Special Awards were presented to projects that have demonstrated outstanding credentials in specific areas. The 2015 Special Award Winners are: 
  • The Selwyn Goldsmith Award for Universal Design: sponsored by Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - in recognition of architect and founding figure of universal design, Selwyn Goldsmith was presented to Library of Birmingham by Mecanoo for Birmingham City Council
  •  Special Award for Scotland: supported by The City of Edinburgh Council and Glasgow City Council was presented to Maggies Cancer Caring Centre Lanarkshire by Reiach and Hall Architects for Maggie's Cancer Caring Trust
  • Special Award for Brick: sponsored by Derwent London -  an exemplar brick building was presented to Saw Swee Hock Student Centre by O'Donnell + Tuomey for London School of Economics and Political Science 
  • Special Award for Community Impact and Engagement: a scheme that has demonstrated how successful community engagement can help deliver the highest standards of design whilst meeting the needs of local people was presented to Black Cultural Archives by Pringle Richards Sharratt for Black Cultural Archives 
  • Special Award for Sustainability:  a project that demonstrates excellent sustainability credentials in terms of overall design parameters, material selection, construction methods and long term energy consumption was presented to Chester Balmore by Rick Mather Architects for London Borough of Camden 
  • Michael Middleton Special Award: a memorial to the former Civic Trust Director Michael Middleton OBE, presented to a restoration project or new build within a conservation area was presented to Wing and Ground Floor East Wing by Interior Architect for Forme UK LLP for Somerset House Trust 
  • Pro Tem Special Award: sponsored by Metropolitan Workshop -  an exemplar project or installation was presented to Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red by Paul Cummins with Tower of London
  • National Panel Special Award: selected by National Panel members as their favourite scheme from this year’s Award winning projects was presented to Abode at Great Kneighton by Proctor and Matthews Architects for Countryside Properties
