Library Conference

SATURDAY 23 NOVEMBER
SPEAK UP FOR LIBRARIES CONFERENCE
CENTRAL LONDON

Dear library supporter

WHAT DO YOU & YOUR LIBRARY NEED?
THIS IS A UNIQUE CHANCE TO TELL THE KEY PEOPLE.

In two weeks' time, this conference will focus sharply on the
real-life needs of people directly working to protect and improve our
vital public library service.
You!

And The Library Campaign will make sure that practical action follows.

SO WHAT'S HAPPENING?

We have lined up ALL the national agencies most clearly charged with
meeting libraries' needs - Arts Council England, the Society of Chief
Librarians, CILIP (the librarians' professional association), Unison
(the main trade union for library staff) and the Department for
Culture, Media & Sport.
What are they doing?

YOU MAY THINK THESE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU.
WELL, THAT'S THE POINT!

These agencies will explain what they are doing.
This is your chance to explain what is really needed.

Libraries are closing in their hundreds - or being dumped on to
'volunteers' as their only chance of survival. It seems that library
users and campaigners are the only ones protesting, trying legal
challenges, or trying to find solutions.

IT'S TIME TO SORT OUT THE MESS.
So come, network with other library supporters - and make it clear
what's needed.
The cost is £20, which covers coffee/lunch/tea.

*** If you are a member of The Library Campaign and have to travel a
long way, we can subsidise your fare. Contact the Secretary.
